Jesus and Mowers

I like to tinker, there is no doubt about it. My daughters live with the wonderful idea, "Dad can fix anything." For the most part I let them keep this idea because its good for my ego and in most situations its true except for one area, mechanics. For some reason if it has a motor on it I am a complete dummy. I can do a great imitation of what the problem sounds like but when it comes to fixing them I'm at a complete loss. Needless to say the other day my mower "broke."

I was going along fine when all of a sudden it just acts like it wants to die. (At this point in the story I normally make a few sound affects, just pretend for me.) So, wanting to get a quick solution and giving myself  a quick pep-talk to be positive I call Mr. Bob. He tells me to tap on the side of the corroborator which I think sounds like good manly advice and do (after he tells me where to find it) This works for a little while but is starts acting funny again. So, I call him back and he suggests to take out and check the spark plug. I do know where and what this is and proceed to go get the tools to do it. I'm feeling pretty good until I discover I don't even have the right tools to do this simple job. I begin to get frustrated. I go inside to get more tools, even if they are not the rite ones, thinking that maybe I can jerry rig something to get the plug out. While sitting next to the mower and staring at the end of spark plug which I have successfully wrestled the chord off of I notice a small screw and wonder what it is but dismiss the thought due to the fact that I am messing with a spark plug and that is OBVIOUSLY the problem. I go inside and get more tools and the next best thing to a mechanic in our house, Columbia. She proceeds to tell me that she can't tell whats wrong and goes back inside to fix dinner and I go back to staring at the mower.

Finally with nothing else to do I decide to take a look at this little screw that has been gnawing at the back of my mind. and two handfuls of debris fall out at me from behind the cover it is holding on. Turns out there is an air filter for the corroborator behind that black cover that is held in place by that little screw I had been refusing to look at and it had gotten plugged up. I just knew I had fixed it! So I went to start it up and absolutely nothing happened. So I washed it off thinking that it just needed a break from all of the trauma that its been through.  Still nothing. Then a still small voice reminds me, "You cant run a motor with out the spark plug connected."
